May Board of Directors Meeting Notes    5/12/10

Attending: David Tarr (President), Marty Ivery (Vice President), Dave Seifritz (Treasurer), Rachel Tarr(Secretary),  Jim Froio, Anthony Hyatt, Pete Renne

·         Chapter meetings:

o        Location: Marty will talk to Barbagallo’s Friday, 5/14. If Barbagallo’s doesn’t work out, we’ll explore other possibilities. Meetings need to be in a restaurant/bar setting.
Going forward, meetings will be more structured and officers will briefly speak in short business meeting.

o        Anthony observed that meetings are better attended with speakers talking about destinations, where to fish and how.  Need speakers with local stream expertise.

o        Upcoming meetings:  Joe Fox in October, fishing the Catskills and flies that go with it.

o        Dave Brandt is a possibility for November.

o        Pat Ross is a possibility for another upcoming meeting.

o        Explore the idea of having someone speak about fishing with spinning rods.

o        Casting clinic meeting was a success.

o        Discussed surveying the membership for likes/dislikes, what they want and expect from the chapter.

·         Picnic:

o        June 2, 5:30, Carpenter’s Brook Hatchery, $10 per person, kids under 12 free.
Bring a side dish to pass.  Dessert covered. BYOB. Chapter will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chips, rolls, soda (3 mixed cases), water, condiments, butter, salt potatoes, and clams, 12/ticket, 1 ticket per person at the door.

o        Dave S. has plates, cutlery, sugar, etc.

o        Marty can get tent from Bill Schaefer; also has access to a large barbecue.
Person of the Year for 2010 is Marty Ivery (per board vote). In the future, this will be voted on by the chapter, and nominations will be requested at chapter meetings.
Quality bucket raffles are still needed. Will raffle free admission to next year’s fly school.

·         Web design:  Discussed having Anthony take over in the fall. Need to get in touch with Frank Dober.

·         Project Healing Waters:  Meeting soon to discuss a fundraiser.

·         Carpenter’s Brook Hatchery:

o        Volunteers needed for “pay to fish” program.

o        Currently, there is a bill in the state legislature that calls for giving 10% of all fishing licenses purchased by Onondaga County residents to the Hatchery. Need to contact legislators to urge them to sponsor the bill. Marty will get info from Walt.

·         Trout About: Discussed. A subcommittee would be required to put this together. Discuss further at future meetings.
