Hey what a great day to be fishing!
Tried my luck up on the W. Canada today. Gorgeous day wow!!
Water levels said 450 [more like 250!!]
Saw a couple guys at Gilberts but that was it; had the whole place to myself.
Not much insect activity so I went low with streamers and czech nymphs and a few stones [dark colors]
hooked half a dozen fish and lost another half but it was tough and I lost about a dozen flies to the boulders; but the price you pay eh?
Fish were beautifully colored and fairly spunky.
Just a gorgeous day to be out.
Water was cold at about 38 to 42F [I gotta quit this wet wading...kidding!!!]
Next time I wear the Neoprenes!!
Wildlife made the day even more enjoyable; saw several deer and turkeys.

Fished the Boulders on the Salmon yesterday with Walt Geryk and Alan Landeer. The Boulders is a 1/2 mile walk downstream from the Pineville Bridge. We all fished with Two Handed rods. Alan hooked up on a four pounder fresh run Chromer on a sz. 2 Blue Charm. Action was slow but gained a bunch of casting experience via Walt Geryk. Chromes, Browns, Kings,Cohos, and oldie moldies are all present. The water ran 900 at Pineville. The crowed was not that bad. Even rotated the pool with some fellow two handers from Vermont.

I do hope you got a chance to fish this friday the 25th it was a fantastic day. However it did not start out that way. Planned to fish WCC early, however 1400 cfs was not in my plans. Salmon was up to 900 cfs no way with all those people. So off to Chittenango Creek which was the right choice. Water was perfect, and the fish cooperative. Hooked and released more than a dozen browns most 10 inchers and 1, 15 inch king of the pool. Mostly midges on the surface and some small nymphs 16′s & 18′s, the king took a size 12 beetle. Fished from 9:00 till 2:00 not much bug activity just a few midges. Then got in 9 holes of golf at Olde Oak. OK Sandy bring on the rain and flush out the leaves and salmon, time to fish for some CHROME!!!!!!!!! The Caddis Kid.

  6. AJH says:

I believe you got it Iso-Joe, “Little Blue Quill”, looks and sounds right! Any body else agree with that answer? I would like at least one more confirmation on it!

  7. ISO-JOE says:

Finally!! Logged in without a huckle. [hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut]

AJH; I think the mayfly could be a “Little Blue Quill” [paraleptophlebia] aka; Slate Wing Mahogany Dun? if it is an 18 then most likely one of these.

  8. AJH says:

A couple things about the Mayfly, first being its a size 16 – 18 and it was a mid afternoon hatch! Any takers on what it is!?

  9. Uncle Mike says:

That is an impressive picture of a Mayfly, could it possibly be an Olive?

  10. Big Jim says:

We tossed some ideas around the Board meeting last night about this website and what we would like to see or make changes to. If you have any please post so we know your out there…

  11. Big Jim says:

The Salmon River is crazy as ever, but everything is in. Nice chrome heads being caught with eggs and streamers. Fisherman also caught on the same thing. :)

  12. AJH says:

    Hey,
Has anyone fished locally lately, Limestone or NineMile? How is the water level on NineMile ? Looking to get out for a hour and get a line wet!

Fished WCC thursday nite 8/30 from 6:30 till 8:30, just down stream of C&R section. Lots of white flies but very little fish, hooked 2 landed 1, 10 inch brown and only saw a half dozen rises. Water temp was 68 degrees at 7:30, flow was 270ish on the H2O site.
lots of cars parked in the parking areas (pulloffs) upstream along trenton falls rd. and partradge hill rd. I was to late to get in to those spots, any one else fish???

  14. caddis kid says:

Fished WCC wed nite down stream of Newport parking area (1 mile south of town) Caught several 10 inch fish and 1 about 14 inches all on a white fly emerger on the swing. Flies started around 7:45 and lasted till 8:15 when the water started to go down at least a foot or more thats when the fishing stopped. Must have been the tail end and thay are moving up stream will try tonite up stream farther. Hatch was not that big so things must just be getting started or the water drop had an effect????

  15. caddis kid says:

Fished WCC monday nite 8/20 from 6:00 till 8:30 2 miles down stream of the C&R section yellow gate parking area no white flies yet this far upstream will check farther down stream wednesday nite. A few caddis and some very large ISO’s (is what i belive they were) at least a size 10, and lots of little black sedge’s size 18′s, all over my waders at the surface. Caught 3- 10 inch browns and lost 3 more on a brown klinkhammer size 12 and a size 18 caddis pupa. Got dark fast with the rain moving in. Hope to fish wednesay and thursday nite will keep you posted. the caddis kid

  16. caddis kid says:

fished WCC thurs am with not much luck early 6:30 till 11:00 half dozen chubs, 1 lost brown and several last minute refusals not much bug activity some little black sedges size 18 but not much else. Fished up stream under the bridge after lunch and caught several browns 10 inch fish so not a total loss of a day. As far as the hatches we should be seeing the White Flies (ephorons) soon, will be trying to get up a couple of times next week to see wats going on at nite will keep you posted caddis kid

  17. caddis kid says:

Fished Chittenango Creek wed nite the 8th and thurs am, flow was still good. Caught and released 5, 8-10 inch fish wed nite, good fight on my 2 weight. Caddis emergers size 18 and pupa size 16 on the swing in the surface film. Nice nite fished till 9:00 ish.
and back at it thurs am 6:30 not much bug action, thought i might see some Tricos but just a few midges and caddis. Emergers and pupa did the trick again with a few midge drys and size 18 foam ants on the surface. Caught and released 6, 10 inch fish. Worked over 3 nice 13 inch fish for almost an hour (on and off ) they kept looking over my flys and put the brakes on several times at the last minute but no luck, but now i know where they are for next time. Smoked a nice fat cigar and offended no one!!!
